Born in 1946 to Belgian-Norwegian stock in Iowa, Bruce has spent the last 3 years as a full-time artist after managing a Southern Arizona cattle ranch for 21 years. The 9 years before that he was a day working cowboy, biologist and foreman of a Black Angus ranch in Northern California.
His roots run deep in agriculture - his great-grandfather, on his mother's side, settled into the fertile lands of central Iowa and began farming, after emigrating from Norway. Bruce's father, George, was a produce buyer before he packed up the family and moved to California in 1955. After going through college twice, he decided to make a living in what had always been his first love - the great outdoors. After coming to the Arizona/Mexico border in 1976, he soon settled into the lifestyle he'd always yearned for. Bruce worked as a fulltime cowboy/ranch manager until the fall of 2001.
Bruce now sculpts and paints fulltime, drawing on the experiences of the last 30 years with cowboys and cattle to bring a fresh perspective to the Cowboy Art world.
